ACI Domain Manager

AccessIntegrator — Domain Manager

Operating on sets of Network Elements

The AccessIntegrator (ACI) Domain Manager includes a full range of management components for solving the management problems of medium and large access networks in context with Network Element administration and backup, mass provisioning, surveillance and mass software download. In addition, the network visualization gives the necessary management overview, and all servers can be remotely controlled. The Domain Manager is a precondition for using higher layer management products.

Network-wide Management of Network Elements

The AccessIntegrator Domain Manager can be used to initiate operations on groups of Network Elements simultaneously via the user interface, which are managed by connected Element Managers.

These operations are:

  • the collection of inventory data from several Network Elements, and the storage of these data in a file on the corresponding server;
  • a software download performed on a group of Network Elements;
  • backup and restore of Network Element configurations;
  • setting time and date for a group of Network Elements;
  • centralized mass provisioning: The Domain Manager reads configuration files containing commands, which are interpreted and converted into requests for Network Elements that are possibly related to different Element Managers. This ensures a common configuration e.g for line cards, links or cross connections.

Centralized Media Interface

In some cases, the operator or maintenance staff needs to be alerted about the occurrence of certain events in the AccessIntegrator without having direct access to the AccessIntegrator. For this purpose, the optionally available media interfaces can be provided giving access to external media such as sound, SMS (Short Message Service), a pager or mobile phone. In future, visual media such as fax, e-mail, HTML pages displayed in a Web browser, or WML pages displayed on a WAP-enabled mobile phone will be supported as well.

Media event configuration allows defining the selection of alarms, which shall initiate the media event, as well as the kind of media event (sound, SMS). The alarms can be filtered according to their severity and with respect to NE types before forwarding them to the operator.

Network Map

A network map is offered, which shows the topology of the managed network and contains the Network Elements of the connected Element Managers. It is constructed by the operator via the network editor and may be modified easily.

Multi-Server Fault and Event Management

The alarm states of termination points and network elements or V5 alarms are propagated from the corresponding connected Element Managers to the Domain Manager and finally condensed to alarms of services in the Network Manager. So alarms for services can be tracked to their related subnetwork connections and the termination points of these subnetwork connections.

Data Export

AccessIntegrator allows exporting a wide variety of data in form of ASCII files. Exportable data include lists, logs, configuration data and inventory data. The export can be initiated manually or, when applicable, on a time-scheduled basis.

Features:

  • Network-wide Management of Network Elements
  • Centralized Media Interface
  • Network Map
  • Multi-Server Fault and Event Management
  • Data Export

Benefits:

  • Optimal support for the fast configuration of medium and large networks
  • Scalability to adopt easily to network growth in size and quality
  • Immediate notifications about problems sent by SMS or other media
  • Choice between different overviews for alarms — condensed or in detail
  • Different visual representations according to the preferences of the operator
