AccessIntegrator

Effective management of the network

Effective management of the network is becoming the key to successful competition and continued growth. Carriers are facing a wide variety of challenges such as:

  • Scalability to manage small to large networks
  • Interoperability of multi-vendor networks under one roof
  • OPEX control to increase network efficiency and hence be more competitive
  • Deployment and automatic provisioning of millions of lines
  • Customer satisfaction through reliable and highly available NMS

With its deep market and industry knowledge Siemens understands these challenges and provides a next generation management solution based on industry standards which not only meets the current needs of the carriers but also guarantees future evolution.

AccessIntegrator is a well-established management system for SURPASS access solutions, from customer premises equipment through to backbone gateways. The network management solution comprises several modular products and can be tailored to suit the customer's specific requirements.

Local Craft Terminal contains an extensive set of fundamental components that handle all local management activities of NEs accessible via a local interface.

Element Managers (EM) are the basic building blocks of the AccessIntegrator — TMN system. They provide access to the complete functionality of the managed network. AccessIntegrator Element Managers are typically used for network elements (NEs) of the same type, or families of NEs (SURPASS hiX, Access Media Gateway, Multi Service Access Platform, etc.). AccessIntegrator Element Managers control and manage all aspects of the managed element and ensure maximum usage of the managed resources. In addition, the AccessIntegrator Element Managers abstract relevant aspects of the detailed knowledge they have on the NEs into an information model. This information is communicated via the northbound interface of the EM to higher-level management systems.

Domain Manager (DM) provides the integration framework for the Element Managers. The DM may combine EMs of the same or of different types. Thus, it acts as the fundamental integration entity, providing a homogeneous appearance of the underlying network to operators as well as to connected TMN systems. The DM provides a common network map in which the managed network elements of all the connected EMs are placed.

Common integrated fault management allows the operator to survey even large networks and to navigate directly into the EM to eliminate errors or configure NEs. AccessIntegrator Domain Manager introduces real scalability into the management of access networks as new EMs may be connected to a running Domain Manager.

Value Added Applications offer additional functions like VPN and special northbound interfaces. Each of the Value Added Applications can be bought separately according to the needs of the customer.

AccessIntegrator integration with external OSS/BSS system via CORBA interfaces:

  • AccessIntegrator CORBA interfaces enable external management systems to quickly and efficiently provision the connections and eliminate faults across the network.
  • AccessIntegrator CORBA, based on the TMF MTNM solution suite 513/608/814/814A, is an interface that is easy to define, implement and use. It also allows Siemens SURPASS Next Generation Access solution to be integrated into any end — to — end OA&M process, e.g. flow-through service provisioning and service assurance or network planning.
  • AccessIntegrator CORBA interfaces are designed to guarantee the measurement of millions of managed objects across the TMN interface without noticeable reduction in performance.
  • AccessIntegrator provides Open CORBA Interfaces (OCI), which can be used by external (i.e. non AccessIntegrator) management system to interact with AccessIntegrator. The same interfaces are also used for internal ACI processes.
  • AccessIntegrator OCI is a well-established and widely adopted interface, which can be found in several telecommunication systems including service provisioning centers and fault management centers. It covers management functions for established and future network technologies, e.g. network discovery, connection, fault and performance management.

Features:

Scalability: Configurations from a single machine to a powerful server-client architecture

Modular and open architecture: AccessIntegrator manages large networks by providing a flexible, modular and open client/server architecture based on ITU recommendations and the TMN layering concept.

Graphical User Interface (GUI): AccessIntegrator provides a task-oriented graphical user interface which offers the same “Look and Feel” as Microsoft Windows.

Carrier-grade FCAPS function: The FCAPS functions of AccessIntegrator provide fast fault analysis, qualification of subscriber lines and performance data as input for SLA agreements. Moreover, they help lower maintenance costs because they let you manage, configure and analyze your operational network without needing technicians to visit installed equipment locations.

Mass provisioning support: Special automatic mass provisioning procedures are available. Used from external network planning systems via XML interfaces, they deliver ultra-fast service activation times for new subscribers.

Automated supervision: AccessIntegrator automated functions such as auto discovery, scheduled software download, automatic export of alarm history or performance log help operators to supervise more efficiently.

Easy integration with external OSS: TMF CORBA, SNMP interfaces, as well as file-type interfaces based on ASCII and XML, are available to allow integration of the SURPASS solutions into any end-to-end OA&M process, such as flow-through service provisioning and service assurance or network planning.

Multi platform support: AccessIntegrator runs on Windows and Unix.

High-availability solutions: AccessIntegrator provides a highly-available system, e.g. geographically redundant system for mission-critical applications which cannot afford loss of data due to hardware failure.

Benefits:

Assurance of successful and fast rollout: AccessIntegrator helps you to achieve biggest market share by driving the mass rollout of DSL.

Easy integration into your business process: AccessIntegrator CORBA interfaces enable external OSS/BSS systems to quickly and efficiently provision connections and eliminate faults across the network.

Maximization of your earnings by reducing OPEX: According to analysts, 60% of the carrier´s costs are operating costs. AccessIntegrator allows you to maximise your profit by reducing your operating costs in this competitive market.

Secure investment: The AccessIntegrator evolution strategy guarantees that your investment is safe and secure.

Field-proven product: AccessIntegrator is well-established in more than 70 countries, thus ensuring excellent performance.

Outstanding reliability: The reliability of your customer services is guaranteed since AccessIntegrator provides availability up to 99.99%.
