Compact SDH multiplexer SMA1K-CP

Multiplexer SMA1Ê-ÑÐ and SMA1K is an ideal solution for cost-efficient Ethernet as well as for voice and data communication.
The edge of public networks is becoming a major growth area. Corporate networks increasingly require leased lines for internal communication, high-speed data exchange and Ethernet-based services, and new mobile services will generate additional traffic. It takes truly flexible and efficient platforms to meet the multifaceted requirements — a platform that addresses your customers’ growing demand for high bandwidth and quality of service.
SMA1K-CP is a new generation of compact optical SDH multiplexers, allowing cost-efficient Ethernet, voice and data services right at your customer’s doorstep.
With SMA1K-CP multiplexer your benefits are:
- Ñost savings due to ultra-compact design and easy installation;
- Reduced investment, operational and maintenance effort: one single solution provides a vast variety of interfaces and facilitates packet-switched, as well as voice services;
- Ñost-efficient high-speed network access for enterprises;
- Economical interconnection of Ethernet — based networks via SDH, featuring highest reliability, high trans-mission rates and quality of service;
- Remote monitoring of end-user interfaces, even across networks operated by third-party contractors;
- Full integration into Siemens’ network management solutions.
SMA1K-CP is a multifunctional network element which can be deployed as a terminal multiplexer or as an add/drop multiplexer in point-to-point, chain or ring topologies.
SMA1K-CP provides integration of electric signals 2 Mbit/s (E1) and 34 Mbit/s (E3), as well as 10/100BaseT (Ethernet) in a synchronous optical signal 155 Mbit/s (STM-1). Its compactness, versatility and reliability make SMA1K-CP a key element of gainful networks which extend to your customer's premises, and which are secure investments — today and in the future.
Interconnecting and Extending LANs.
Interconnecting geographically distributed corporate networks can be quite challenging when end-users place high demands in terms of reliability and data transmission rates. TransXpress SMA1KCP provides the solution, offering a wide variety of services in a very cost-efficient manner.

SMA1K-CP brings SDH technology close to your LAN customers, thus providing proven reliability, high transmission rates and quality of service:
- Combining LAN technology with reliable SDH quality;
- Supporting LAN-LAN applications (e.g. leased lines);
- Facilitating Ethernet interfaces for cost-effective packet-based data networking (10/100BaseT, auto-sensing);
- Offering optical STM-1 line cards for up to 80 km distances.
Meeting your Customers’ Demands for Different Applications
TransXpress SMA1K-CP enables you to fulfill your customers' application needs with one single solution. It offers a multitude of different interfaces which facilitate a wide range of services and topologies:
- Vast variety of interfaces: 2 x 10/100BaseT, 12 x 2 Mbit/s, 34 Mbit/s, 45 Mbit/s;
- Wireless networks: interconnection of base-station controllers;
- Fiber to the curb: high-speed network access for enterprises;
- Versatile applications: transparent leased-line services, interconnecting voice POPs, integrated IP/voice solutions, etc.
Saving Space and Cutting Costs
Reducing floor space and power consumption is increasingly important in economical and profitable operation of networks. SMA1K-CP is specially designed to meet these goals. Its highly integrated circuits permit a desktop-size design, while maintaining complete terminal and add/drop functionality and offering optical interfaces for intra-office or long-haul distances. It allows a variety of mounting options, making it easy and rapid to install, e.g. in local exchange offices, street cabinets or in workplace environments. This facilitates the management of local exchanges without additional expenditure, while bringing “fiber to the curb”. At a customer’s location or in street cabinets, SMA1K-CP is your choice when it comes to optimizing your return on investment in the SDH access domain.
Remote Monitoring via Third-party Environments
In many operating environments the use of third-party networks along the way is inevitable. STM1K-CP provides you with a variety of features for monitoring network elements, irrespective of the third-party elements used:
- VC-4 line-to-line cross-connectivity, enabling network termination functionality NT-1 for clear separation, supervision of carrier/carrier or carrier/ end-user networks and domain borders;
- Near — and far end VC-4 tandem connection monitoring (TCM) for accurate quality of service measurement;
- In-band remote network element control via VC-4 POH support for transmissions across different operators’ networks;
- Extensive traffic protection (1+1 MSP, SNCP).
