Highlights at a glance
SURPASS hiT 70xx series, Siemens Next Generation SDH platform family, enables true multi-service provisioning and serves the requirements of tomorrow’s converged networks.
SURPASS hiT 7050 is an ultra-compact and cost-effective multiplexer integrating voice and data services. It serves all applications with one common card pool for two dedicated platforms. It is designed for customer premises and the metro access layer.
SURPASS hiT 7050 has the following key features:
· Fully non-blocking 5G & 10G@VC-12 switching granularity
· Multi-service platform for PDH, SDH and Ethernet services: 2M, 34/45M, STM-1/4/16, 10BaseT, FE, GbE
· Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) mapping for Ethernet for optimal scalability
· Extensive protection features (SNCP, MSP, BSHR)
· High-density interface cards deploying small form factor pluggable (SFP) optical modules
· Layer-2 switching for optimal data handling
Major benefits for carriers
· Increased revenue from new services
· Significant cost reductions (CAPEX and OPEX)
· Seamless integration into the existing network infrastructure
· Full integration into Siemens’ best-in — class TNMS network management system
Increased revenues from new services SURPASS hiT 7050 helps operators achieve an optimal balance between new competitive data services and traditional revenue — generating voice and leased-line services. SURPASS hiT 7050 gives carriers a unique competitive advantage, by transporting cost-efficient and flexible Ethernet services from business customers using reliable SDH technology. Furthermore, the provided Ethernet services feature Quality of Service (carrier-grade Ethernet), thus offering customized Service Level Agreements. The main differentiator here is bandwidth shaping according to the customer’s need.
SURPASS hiT 7050 therefore not only maximizes the revenue to be gained from existing capacity, but it also opens new revenue streams while keeping investments at low level.
It allows the operator to start with a basic configuration at lowest price and cost-efficiently upgrade the system in-service step by step. Not only is the bandwidth scalable, but also the number and type of services, bringing all the flexibility the carriers need in today’s telecommunication market. It therefore prepares the operator’s networks for future requirements, allows business driven growth and assures early time to market of new services.

OPEX and CAPEX reductions as well as optimal use of existing resources are the main benefits of SURPASS hiT 7050:
· Convergence of data and voice combined with increased functionality and high integration density significantly reduces the amount of equipment. Considerable lower investment, installation, operational and maintenance costs are the consequence
· Equipment modularity and flexibility is based on a common pool of all types of interface cards. But even more, this common card pool reduces the number of spare parts operators need to stock
· Optimized bandwidth utilization is guar — anteed by Generic Framing Procedure
(GFP) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS). Transmission capacity is adjustable in steps of 1 Mbit/s for 10/100BaseT services and 1 Mbit/s steps for GbE services up to wire speed
· The integrated Layer-2 Switch module provides local switching and overbooking with customer separation — without the need for additional platforms and technologies. The carrier is in the position to offer (multi)point-to-multipoint Ethernet services
· The small form factor pluggable (SFP) optical modules are customized port features which allow “under-equipping” to support different applications cost — effectively. Long-haul and short-haul interfaces can be mixed on one card
Seamless integration into the existing network infrastructure
SURPASS hiT 7050 protects the installed SDH investment and sustains the operator’s TDM services and revenue. Moreover the existing network can be upgraded with minimum costs to carry Ethernet traffic, which opens the door to new business opportunities and new customers. Once mapped into the SDH containers, the Ethernet traffic can be transported via the existing network.
Full integration into Siemens TNMS SURPASS hiT 7050 is fully integrated into Siemens’ best-in-class TNMS network management system, which provides end-to — end administration and performance monitoring for the converged next generation SDH network. It also improves operating efficiency, reduces costs for service delivery, and simplifies network operations. Clear technological advantages with SURPASS hiT 7050
The major network market for SURPASS hiT 7050 is the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) segment for carriers and end-customers, as well as access network rings. SURPASS hiT 7050 represents a true multi — service network element that can be deployed as a terminal multiplexer (TMX), an add-drop multiplexer (ADM) and a small local cross-connect (LXC) in point-to-point, chain and ring topologies and ring interconnections. It is the best choice for applications with uplink capacity ranging from STM-1 to STM-16.
The wide variety of applications and services covered by SURPASS hiT 7050 include:
· Highly flexible multi-service metro access, for collecting any combination of Ethernet and SDH traffic
· Single and multiple ring closure
· SDH services that can be made available on customer sites, thereby meeting end — customers’ increasing demand for high bandwidth and Quality of Service (QoS)
· Connection of customer’s premises
(inter-connecting and extending LANs)
· Bandwidth on demand via GFP mapping and LCAS for Ethernet point-to-point links
· Network termination on customer premises and demarcation between different providers’ networks
· Connection of base stations in mobile networks
