SURPASS hiX 57xx GPON

Surpass hiX 57xx GPON Solution
The hiX 57xx-series GPON is a product family which includes the necessary service adaptation functions to support the delivery of all types of applications over Ethernet/IP networks and the needed interfaces to address TDM and Ethernet based connections. The GPON product portfolio integrates GPON technology into carrier Ethernet solutions and opens up the world of fiber to the home and fiber to the office.
The main components of a Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) are the Optical Network Termination Units (ONTs), a Passive Optical Network (PON), Optical Line Termination Unit (OLT), Ethernet and MPLS based aggregation devices, multi-service edge routers and triple-play application networks (voice, broadband Internet access, TV and video content delivery solution).
The hiX 57xx-series includes the whole access part (ONTs, PON and OLT) of this end-to-end solution, however Siemens is able to provide the complete next generation broadband access, aggregation and triple-play application network, where full interoperability is ensured. An ONT is connected with an optical splitter by a single fiber which supports three wavelengths.
Data from the ONT to the OLT is transmitted by the 1310 nm wavelength and from the OLT to the ONT by 1490 nm.
A third wavelength at 1550 nm can be used for TV broadcast transmission from an optical amplifier module to the ONTs. In that case, a splitter is used to couple the TV broadcast wavelength onto the PON.
The GPON OLT aggregates up to 56 GPON interfaces to:
• 1x 10-Gbps Ethernet uplink interface and/or
• up to 4x 1-Gbps Ethernet uplink interfaces on CXU_F4.
It can also be equipped with additional uplink units providing further optical 10-Gbps. These interfaces can be used to set up a non-blocking access network or for service separation.
All packet based services are carried over these uplink interfaces. Service separation can also be done by a Metro Ethernet switch. For instance, the VoIP traffic is transmitted to an access media gateway and the Internet traffic is forwarded to a BRAS.
The POTS service is provided by VoIP, which means that the ONT accommodates an access gateway according to H.248 or SIP.
Siemens recommends and offers its GPON 57xx-series ONTs. But on customer request also third vendor ONTs can be used which comply with the appropriate standards.
• Optical Line Termination (OLT)
hiX 5750 OLT is a multi-slot shelf installed at the Central Office of an operator. It houses Central Switching Unit (CXU_F4) and Interface Units for PON subscribers aggregation. In the next releases interface units for FE, GE links and xDSL subscribers aggregation will be available that will provide a smooth migration of OLT to a Multiservice Access Node (MAN).
Subscribers’ traffic is aggregated by different interface units of an OLT and directed to the CXU_F4 which implements switching and routing mechanisms for sending data to the destination points. Connection to the Ethernet aggregation network is provided over
1 GE and/or 10 GE ports residing on CXU_F4 cards or additional uplink cards.

• Optical Network Termination (ONT)

• Optical Network Unit (ONU)
hiX 5709 ONU Multi-dwelling Unit (MDU) is a 5 slots shelf unit installed in shelters (FTTC), basements of apartment buildings (FTTB) for residential customers servicing. 4 of 5 MDU slots may be populated by Service Boards of different types for Ethernet, POTS (VoIP) and xDSL (ADSL2+ / VDSL2) provisioning. Subscribers’ traffic aggregated by Service Boards is directed to the Uplink Board and sent over the GPON interface to the OLT. The Uplink Board supports the cascading of an other MDU.
