Features and advantages — a closer look

Using cutting-edge GEPON technology based on the latest IEEE 802.3ah stan — dard, SURPASS hiX 54xx supports Gigabit Ethernet down-/upstream data rates over the fiber infrastructure. It supports a splitting ratio of up to 1: 32 and Ethernet uplinks for non-blocking access networks.

SURPASS hiX 5430 is a chassis-based Optical Line Termination OLT with a universal slot architecture and is suitable for central office deployments. The chassis can be equipped with a central switching unit (24 Gbps switching capacity). Each of the 12 universal slots can also be equipped with either 2-port GEPON line units or 2-port GbE uplink cards. Based on the 2-port GEPON cards with a splitting ratio of up to 1: 32, a total of 640 ONTs can be addressed from a single chassis. The SURPASS hiX 5404 ONT supports residential and business customer needs with its four 10/100BT Ethernet ports. The Siemens GEPON solution is fully integrated into APM-E, our network management system for the SURPASS Carrier Ethernet Solution. It provides network operators with first class, secured, end-to-end service provisioning, service man-agement and extensive monitoring tools.

The Siemens GEPON product solution is integrated in the Carrier Ethernet end-to-end portfolio. It combines the flexibility of Ethernet with our best practice in traditional access and optical transport networks. The end-to-end management provided by APM-E enables quick and easy provisioning of the network. New broadband access services can be offered at a lower cost, thus increasing carriers’ revenue.
