SURPASS hiD6600 Product family
In an attempt to consolidate the access network and reduce overheads, many carriers are now focusing on native Ethernet as the primary solution for access network infrastructure. While some Ethernet services are deployed today in a private line model (i.e. dedicated point-to-point service), the real cost benefits come from consolidation of the Ethernet access infrastructure into the overall network architecture (known as shared Ethernet service). The carrier can then use this shared infrastructure to deliver a variety of Ethernet service types, including:
— E-Line or Virtual Line (sometimes known as LAN Extension)
— E-LAN or Virtual LAN (also known as Virtual Private Network or VPN)
— Throttled Ethernet (sub full rate GigE or Fast Ethernet)
— Differentiated Internet access
New technologies have subsequently emerged providing cheaper access links based on intelligent Layer 2 switching. These Layer 2 switches now solve many of the non-deterministic problems associated with Ethernet networks and can monitor and enforce Quality of Service using technologies such as IEEE802.1Q/p (VLAN tagging). Under these conditions the shared infrastructure becomes a much more balanced transport for Ethernet service delivery.
Siemens therefore provides a complete Carrier Class Ethernet portfolio, including Layer 2 switches and IP-DSLAM’s for the first mile and also aggregation Layer 2 switches in the second mile. Thus the Siemens solution offers a common platform for residential and business customers, managed by an end to end management and provisioning system Advanced Provisioning Manager for Ethernet called (APM-E).
The SURPASS hiD 6600 family is the first true carrier-built metro Ethernet switching product line. It enables both transport and service networks, with end-to-end management, robust OAM tools and competitive total cost.
The SURPASS hiD 6600 family is designed for a packet switching range of 50 Gbps to 640 Gbps as well as compatibility with metro-access and core-metro networks.
As a carrier-built system, the SURPASS hiD 6600 family enables the highest possible network uptime through redundant nodes and network resilience (5x9s reliability). It also provides a wide range of next-generation, revenue-generating services, such as multimedia, gaming applications, Layer-2 VPN services and end-to-end SLA provisioning, including fine granularity of service levels.
· Transport/transmission technologies: Ethernet rings and meshed Ethernet.
· Networking technologies such as MPLS, VLAN bridging and IP.
Of no less importance, to ensure network flexibility for smooth interoperation with legacy networks, the Ethernet-based metro access networks supported by the SURPASS hiD 6600 family can interface with older, less advanced networks, enabling next-generation network service provisioning along with legacy services.
Aimed at next-generation carrier networks, the SURPASS hiD 6600 family provides an end-to-end packet based solution — including various Ethernet in the first mile access options for flexible, cost effective and rapid residential and business broadband rollout, as well as high capacity, powerful metro aggregation and metro core switching infrastructure, with robust, end-to-end network and service management.
